My first full length graphic novel is now available for preorder

I am delighted to announce that this summer Scholastic will be publishing “The power of welcome” a graphic novel featuring the true stories of displaced people and my first full-length illustrated publication.

Each story is a true account of a young person’s journey as a refugee to safety, including my own story of leaving Bosnia-Herzegovina as a young child. Other contributors include writer and cartoonist Ramzee; children’s illustrator Nadine Kadaan; former psychologist Marie Bamyani; and Sonya Zhurenko, a 15-year old girl who had to flee Ukraine in february 2022.
This project was a true labour of love as it is also my first major project since I went on maternity leave in 2021!
Working on these stories of young people surviving against the odds whilst caring for my own child brought back a lot of memories of what a confusing, isolating and lonely experience being a child refugee was. And the enormous danger and heartache parents go through to ensure a safe and bright future for their children.

I hope this book not only helps other children understand the power and humanity of welcoming refugees but also helps other child refugees like myself feel less alone; and helps create greater empathy for the plight of those forced to leave their homes.

The power of welcome is expected to be published in may 2023, you can place a preorder here:
